The back-to-back accidents come days after another freighter carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in Ohio
One man was killed following a collision with an oncoming train in southeastern Texas, causing more than a dozen cars to derail in one of two similar accidents on Monday. Another incident in South Carolina saw three cars come off the tracks.
The crash occurred in Splendora, Texas early on Monday morning, according to the East Montgomery County Fire Department.

San Rafael resident Martin Solomon, a World War II officer who participated in the D-Day landing, has died at age 102.
Mr. Solomon died of natural causes on Jan. 28 while on hospice care, said his daughter, Karen Solomon Brewer of Maui.
“I think he will be remembered as an old-school gentleman. He was polite, he was helping and giving in a non-ostentatious way,” his daughter said. “He never boasted about himself.”
Mr. Solomon was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and the skipper of a landing craft that took soldiers and supplies to Normandy Beach.

A Colorado police officer has died after succumbing to the injuries he sustained in a fall from a 40-foot bridge while in pursuit of carjacking suspects.
35-year-old Officer Julian Becerra passed away Saturday evening, February 11, at Penrose Hospital located in Colorado Springs. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Michigan State University Police issued an active shooter warning and told students via text to “Run, hide, fight” around 8:30 p.m on Monday.
Officials are trying to locate a shooter they say is on foot on or near the East Lansing campus.
Police say shots were fired in multiple locations on campus, including Berkey Hall, which houses the school’s College of Arts and Sciences. It was not clear how many people have been killed or wounded.
Officials did not provide additional details.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted she had been briefed on the shooting.
