Unable to rely on wind and solar, Sweden ditches 100% renewable target and bets big on nuclear power
The Swedish parliament determined last week that in order to ensure the country has a “stable energy system,” it will have to abandon its goal of “100 per cent renewable electricity production by 2040.”
To satisfy electricity demand, which is set to double to around 300 TwH by 2040, Sweden’s right-of-center government announced June 20 that it would instead lean more heavily on nuclear energy and subsidize the construction of new nuclear plants — plants green-lit in 2016 but sidelined for fear they would be too expensive, reported Reuters.

A couple years ago I noticed a trend in meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous. The meeting was no longer ending with the Lord’s Prayer.
For more than 30 years every meeting I attended ended the same way — with the “Our Father,” then the Serenity Prayer, then the chant of “Keep Coming Back, It Works if You Work It!”
Suddenly, meetings were going straight to the Serenity Prayer and then the final pep chant. The “Our Father” was gone. This seems to be part of a larger trend.

Almost an entire litter of puppies is alive and well, thanks to a kind-hearted individual who found the little dogs abandoned in a garbage bag and took them to a local animal shelter.
On Thursday, the individual — identified only as “a good Samaritan” — found eight puppies in a garbage bag near a dumpster in Austin, Texas. At the time, temperatures in the city had soared to more than 90 degrees, and a storm had also recently swept through the area, so helping the animals receive medical attention as soon as possible was critical.
