ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Shawn Steik and his wife were forced from a long-term motel room onto the streets of Anchorage after their rent shot up to $800 a month. Now they live in a tent encampment by a train depot, and as an Alaska winter looms they are growing desperate and fearful of what lies ahead.
A proposal last week by Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson to buy one-way plane tickets out of Alaska’s biggest city for its homeless residents gave Steik a much-needed glimmer of hope. He would move to the relative warmth of Seattle.

Climate Change: Conspiracy, Alarmism, or Science?
Or maybe a bit of all three? Let us look at the evidence.
Some fifty years ago now, in 1972 a number of compulsive do-gooders of the financial / intellectual elite met in a gathering of their self styled “The Club of Rome.”
This was an annual event, a pre-cursor to today’s Davos Switzerland meetings of the word’s elite. One of their leaders, the Italian billionaire Aurelio Peccei, co-authored a book titled “The limits of growth.

A judge just told Hunter Biden to abstain from doing drugs or drinking alcohol, if he wants to stay out of jail.
Fox News reports that U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika included this among the conditions that she placed on Biden’s release.
This came during Wednesday’s hearing, after Biden’s “sweetheart” plea agreement with the federal government fell apart.
Biden was expected to plead guilty to lesser, misdemeanor tax and gun charges in exchange for avoiding a prison sentence. But, things did not go according to plan, and Noreika is the reason why.

Politico reports that U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) will not seek reelection in 2024.
Instead, the outlet reports that Spanberger has decided to pursue the state’s governorship in 2024.
Per Politico:
Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a centrist Democrat from Virginia who sits in a must-win seat for her party in 2024, has told multiple people she will run for governor in 2025.
It is the fact that Spanberger’s congressional seat is so important to the Democrats that makes Spanberger’s decision not to seek reelection potentially problematic for the Democrats.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the main Democrat primary challenger to President Joe Biden, said Friday on X (formerly Twitter) that the Biden administration denied him Secret Service protection that he had requested months earlier and that is customary for early presidential candidates.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the indictment against former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents, charged Trump’s head of maintenance on Thursday.
Carlos De Oliveira, Mar-a-Lago’s head of maintenance, was charged with altering, destroying, mutilating, or concealing a document, making false statements, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
De Oliveira is now the third defendant in the case alongside Trump and Trump’s longtime valet, Walt Nauta.
The most disappointing New York team in years gave their fans a taste of what they have to look forward to for the rest of the season.
It took the threat of a contempt of Congress charge, but House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) was finally able to procure internal emails from Meta, formerly known as Facebook, regarding a censorship campaign it ran on millions of Americans at the behest of the White House.
President Joe Biden’s administration’s involvement in censoring free speech on social media came to light in a big way earlier this year with the release of the “Twitter Files,” and has been exposed once again for similar actions, this time with Facebook.
Conservatives were laughed at by most of the media and Democrats when they brought up concerns about being censored across social media for different viewpoints on the controversial subjects of the day.
According to Breitbart, another trove of documents — mostly emails recently made public — from behind the scenes at Facebook prove that the tech giant was essentially taking censorship orders from the Biden administration.
NEW YORK (AP) — Six straight days of 12-hour driving. Single digit paychecks. The complaints come from workers in vastly different industries: UPS delivery drivers and Hollywood actors and writers.
But they point to an underlying factor driving a surge of labor unrest: The cost to workers whose jobs have changed drastically as companies scramble to meet customer expectations for speed and convenience in industries transformed by technology.
Former President Donald Trump just revealed that he has spoken with his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump, about the indictments that he is facing and that such conversations have been “unpleasant.”
Trump made the revelation, according to The Hill, on Friday, during an appearance Friday on The John Fredricks Show.
“For what?!”
During the interview, Trump spoke about those occasions when he has had to share with Melania the news that he has been indicted.

According to the July 27 emergency notice, the company is no longer confident that it can sustain required electrical contingency reserves.

A judge has just ordered the parties involved in the federal case against Hunter Biden not to contact the court’s clerk.
The Washington Examiner reports that U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika gave the order in a filing that was made on Friday.
This comes after Noreika refused to allow Biden and the federal government to proceed with what many have referred to as a “sweetheart” plea agreement – the agreement in which Biden agreed to plead guilty to a tax and a gun misdemeanor in exchange for not having to spend any time in prison.
President Joe Biden’s Justice Department, under Special Counsel Jack Smith, announced a new round of federal charges against former President Donald Trump.
According to Breitbart, Smith added three additional charges to the ongoing case.

President Joe Biden has finally decided to acknowledge his seventh grandchild, Navy Joan Roberts.

Presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) just seemed to suggest that he would, if he becomes president, pardon former President Donald Trump.
DeSantis suggested as much during a recent interview that he participated in on The Megyn Kelly Show.
DeSantis is not only running for the presidency in 2024 but, on the Republican side, he is Trump’s top rival in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
That being said, DeSantis, according to Real Clear Politics, currently trails Trump, on average, by 34 percentage points.

For centuries, humans have searched for the fountain of youth. But according to recent research, the fountain of youth isn’t some water with magic properties — instead, it seems there is power in the blood … human blood.
Gen Magazine — a publication dedicated to genetic engineering and biotechnology — described how young blood can slow the aging process:
Heterochronic parabiosis (HPB) is a state where two living animals (one young and one old) develop a single, shared circulatory system because they are surgically joined together.
Unsurprisingly, the question of NATO membership for Ukraine generated the greatest discussion among both the participants at the recent NATO summit in Vilnius and commentators in the major western media outlets. Beyond the sometimes testy exchanges, however, much of the focus seemed to be on the benefit NATO membership would provide for Ukraine. Everyone — including, significantly, the Ukrainians themselves — understands that NATO membership cannot occur with a war already in progress.
Some cities seem to burst with saints. Home to well-known twentieth century saints like St. Faustina Kowalska, and St. Maximilian Kolbe, and St. John Paul II — as well as older saints less familiar to Americans, like St. Stanislaw and St. Jadwiga — Krakow is one of those cities.
Seen through the lives of the saints, Krakow comes alive. Even a simple walk through the streets of the old city becomes a pilgrimage; the place brings to mind the saints who loved it so, and their lives draw the mind higher to God, to whom they gave everything.

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) — With the summer heat wave in full swing in Southern California, a backyard pool is a tempting place to take a dip.
Even for a bear.
Police in the city of Burbank responded to a report of a bear sighting in a residential neighborhood and found the animal sitting in a Jacuzzi behind one of the homes.
After a short dip, the bear climbed over a wall and headed to a tree behind the home, police said in a statement Friday.
Police released a video of the animal in the neighborhood, which is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Los Angeles and near the Verdugo Mountains.
